MR. LANG’S OPPONENTS

CONFIDENCE IN SUCCESS.

IMPRESSIONS OF AUCKLANDER.

“I think that at the forthcoming election New South Wales will reject Mr.' Laim and return Mr. Stevens,” said Mr.°J. F. W- Dickson, who returned to Auckland on Tuesday after a two months’ business visit to Sydney. “This will mean adopting the Premiers plan and for the time being exercising stringent measures to balance the Budget The Federal Labour Party candidate in Mr. Lang’s electorate, Mr. Percy Coleman, with whom I had a long talk, is very hopeful of defeating Mr. Lang. “During my visit to Sydney I met many business men, and they all told me, without exception, that duinig the Lairn regime business was m a desperate ’state. The big shops were just staggering along hoping for the best. The difficulty was that Mr. Lang had declared w&r on commercial and pio* fessional men, and they were powerless to do anything to stop the progress of destruction of ‘this mad Mullah, as I heard him called in Parliament, without objection. “In the le"al world business is very Slow, the oufv ones making any money being a few leaders of the Bar. Solicitors are doing practically nothing. I had the privilege of hearing the aigument on th© Garnishee Act before the Court of Australia-, and could not help being .impressed with the ability and .learning of the Bench. ‘■Many people do not appicciate the significance of Mr. Lang end his policy. He is a political fanatic of just another type as Lenin or Stalin. He is a wealthy man, and personally will not bo deviated by monetary considerations from his determination to destroy the present economic conditions of society in New South Wales. He has a great blind following which believes that his policy of repudiation and destruction of capitalism is the only hope of salvation for New South Wales. Mr. Stevens, the present Premier, whom I saw in Parliament, is an earnest, sincere man.”
