SHOW REORGANISED

GAIETY DOMINANT FEATURE PROVISION FOR MORE EXHIBITS. SPECIAL SECTION FOR CANARIES. More effective use of the space available is the feature of the re-organisa-tion of the show this year. A corner of the large hall .that for some years has been entirely devoted to motor show is occupied this year by the buttei - and cheese exhibits. Upstairs above the defence offices at the southern end of the same hall, where previously afternoon tea was dispensed, has been specially set aside this year for the canary show. One of the chief reasons for this is that it is essential that the birds should be free from draughts. There are 71 entries in the canary section, which including some special Hastings displays will provide 80 pens of cage birds. A trades stall demonstrating wireless and other musical instruments will be the source of music for the motor show, which occupies two-thirds of the lar'oe hall.

The greater part of the second hall lias been devoted to fancy work, arts and crafts, models, fretwork and cookery, in which there are largely increased entries this year, especially in fretwork.

The greatest transformation has taken place in the third hall, which is usually used as a supper room in connection with .dances in the second hall. Refreshments are this year being dispensed at the northern end of this hall,

and a special large enclosure has been subdivided off in the hall for dancing. Demonstration's of dancing by teachers and their pupils will be given during the afternoons, and for the remainder of the tim'd' there : will be continuous dancing available to the public, the music being supplied through wireless and loud speakers from a trades stall adjoining. Seating accommodation for . spectators who wish to watch the dancing is provided round the outside of the enclosure.

All the school work and the boys’ and girls’ clubs’ entries are displayed together in a special section at the end of the poultry hall. The usual merry-go-rounds and showmen's stalls are located on the vacant ground to the east of the halls, and the kennel club’s show,* which opens to-morrow, will. be. found in the basement at the northern end of the buildings. A new feature of the show this year is an exhibit ou behalf of the Katere experimental area, Bell Block, which faces the visitors immediately after entering the show through the main entrance. Special lantern slides of educational interest to farmers will be shown at this stall.

The immense trouble to which the decorations committee, under the able direction of Messrs. . Tom Petty and Jack Christofferson, must have gone to is vividly apparent to every visitor. Everywhere gaily coloured paper streamers in various designs and schemes have almost completely hidden the bare , walls and ceilings that sometimes used to obstrude themselves. Festoons of white with coloured pendants greet one on arrival; the poultry hall strikes a different note in red and white curtains and steamers; but the climax is reached in the middle hall, which is. a veritable riot of colour. The decorations for the Charity Ball, which recently took place in this hall, have been, left for the show, and patrons will find much' to admire in the picturesque mural sketches of Venetian' and other scenes, and the decorative coloured posters of the Empire Marketing Board. Not only colour and brightness, but also freshness, charactises the. whole display of this year’s show. A frequent tendency towards drabness of muchused cloth, paper and paint work is almost entirely absent. Characteristic of this freshness is the neat whiteness of the trellis work that divides the refreshment rooms from the dance enclosure, and the fence that surrounds the dancing area.
