CRICKET DIVERGENCE
SECESSION OF COUNTY CLUBS.
VIEW OF THE NORTHERN DIVISION
The decision of the country cricket clubs to withdraw from amalgamation with the North Taranaki Cricket Division was considered at a meeting of tne North Taranaki Cricket Division at New ■Plymouth last night. The country clubs said that they had decided to carry on as previously as the Country Cricket Association and to affiliate as »uch with the North Taranaki Division. There Were present at the meeting Messrs T. H. Bates (chairman), S. O. Jones, W. Beard, A. Gilbert, F. Ferry and G. W. Haughton. Th© division decided to advise the Country Association that its letter would be considered at the anuual meeting of the division, when no doubt the terms under which it would be admitted to affiliation as an association would be decided. The secretary was instructed to point out to the Country that certain country clubs were unfinancial at the present time and that the division presumed the Country Association would see that those fees were paid at an early date.. . One of the chief objections of. the Country meeting against the division was that the Thursday . competition teams had been graded senior B instead of senior A, said the chairman. In the first place the scheme was impracticable. If the Eltham Thursday team, for instance, was graded senior A with the right to play for the championship and it defeated the championship team in the ’town competition, then the out-' come would be that Eltham would be playing off with the provincial championship with another team from South Taranaki. The Taranaki Association would not be likely to agree to that. The statement had been reported, at the Country meeting that the decision of the division to grade Thursday teams B grade had been made at an informal meeting said Air. 'Bates. That statement was incorrect, the minutes showing that the meeting was in order with a full quorum. One of the Country representatives on the executive, Mr. P. Sarten, was reported as making that statement, said the chairman. Mr. Sarten had not been present at that particular meeting and, in fact, had attended only five of the 16 meetings of the executive last season. Had he attended the meetings of the executive and given his advice on Country matters some of the misunderstandings probably would not have arisen.
Arising out of a postponed match between Old Boys’ senior B team and Western Park, the association decided to notify teams that all postponed matches must be played at a later date or else ground fees for the match must be paid, even if the match was not played.
