FINAL DAY AT ELLERSLIE

COPEY AND CALLAMART AGAIN. HISTORIC HAS A GOOD CHANCE. (By “Hurry On.”) Th© Auckland. Racing. Club’s winter carnival concludes to-day, when the principal events will be the Winter Steeplechase and the York Handicap. All the other events have filled well, and with the form of the first two days to guide them punters should bo well on the mark. Proceedings will commence with the TAMAKI STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP Of £225. About two miles and a half. Monetize 11 2 Cat-i-mcs 9 9 Neil 10 10 Royal Reign 9 9 Town Beauty 10 7 Tapapa 9 9 Apache 10 5 Absent 9 4 Jen 10 5 Day Lark 9 4 Calaris 9 9 Monetize shaped very well on the opening day and the race should have improved him. Town Beauty won the Hunt Cup in impressive style. Apache, Cat-i-mes and Royal Reign all have chances. The public will probably support Monetize, Town Beauty and Royal Reign in that order. » ORAKEI HURDLE HANDICAP. Of £225. About one mile and threequarters. Paddon 10 8 Appledore 9 8 Neil 10 1 . . A • Balloon 10 6 Commissioner 9 T Patutahi 10 4 Trowbridge 9 6 Kull Measure 10 • 4 Rc , yal visitor 9 0 Biforfti 10 0 Cat-i-mes 9 0 Fernden 0 12 Kiahoremai 9 0 Cargen 9 10 Quite a number of these have shown good form at the meeting. Full Measure has gone two fine races, Ferndcn showed up on the Opening day, and AppledOre was very unlucky on Saturday. Paddon, Balloon and Biform should also make things interesting. Three that should be prominent at the finish are Full Measure, Balloon and Paddon. YORK HANDICAP. Of £550. One mile. iffiiforie 10 3 Maori Boy 8 4 Sunny Sky 10 3 1 0 Arikira 9 11 ! q Prince Vai 9 3 s « Little Doubt 9 2 £u c y Rose 8 0 Manwhenuk 9 1 Jaeldy Karo 8 0 Silvermine 9 0 Catoma 8 0 Gold Money 810 Bronze Tray 8 0 Protomint 8 8 Q ay idea 8 0 King’s Archer 8 6 Fairway 8 0 Imperial Baroscope 8 0 Prince 8 5 Lucky Alice 8 0 Vandyke 8 4 Gay Court 8 0 This is' the largest field of the day and should provide a fine race. Historic is improving with every race. Sunny Sky has won two and may make it three; she is an improved mare. Arikira would have to do a lot better than he d’d on Friday to have a chance. Prince Vai may need the race, but Little Doubt is at the top of his form. Mauawhenua was very unlucky in the King George Handicap and may make amends here. Protomint, Imperial Prince and Vandyke are all likely lightweights. In a good pool Historic, Manawhenua and Little Doubt may be the best supported. WINTER STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP. Of £650. About three miles. Make Up 11 0 Lucess 9 12. - , i n n Master Lu 912 Landmark 11 0 Callamart -9 11 WfitsWre 10 11 Copey 9 u Billy Boy 10 11 jj Sau gh eva ii er 9 7 P? ris ™ o Kamehameha 9 0 Claremore 10 2 9 0 Nukumai 10 0 Jen 9 0 This is almost as strong a field "as the one that contested the Great Northern. If both members of the bracket, Make Up and Landmark, should start, it would probably be favourite. Wiltshire does not like Ellerslie, but Billy Boy will be more at home over the shorter distance. Claremore should hold Paris and Nukumai, but may find it hard to concede weight to Callamart and Copey. Lucess and Slump may do best of the others. The race is very open, but Copey, Callamart and Claremore should be prominent at the finish. CAMPBELL HURDLE HANDICAPOf £4OO. Two miles. Landmark 11 10 Advance Camp 9 7 ~ , 11 7 Arch Eagle 9 7 M?k c Up in fi Nassock 9 6 High Pitch Kawainga 9 6 Luminary 10 4 Patutahi 9 0 Cruachan 10 4 Fu]l Measure 9 0 Easterly 10, 2 The Corry bracket is also in here, and if Landmark were reserved he would be well supported. High Pitch may have been improved by his racing, and Luminary will appreciate the shorter distance. Cruachan and Easterly have both , fallen during the meeting and apparently are not at home the reverse way round. Full Measure and Arch Eagle are likely lightweights. Form points to Landmark, Luminary and Full Measure. ; VISITORS’ HANDICAP. Of £350. Six furlongs. Consent JO 2 Gay Cockade 8 0 Huntingdon 10 2 Lord Vai Tradesman 9 6 Echo Sons S rreBh ? 8 8 WCTBta 8 0 Chromadyne 8 8 Princess Bede 8 0 The Tiger Sb - Court g 9 Hamptdn Park 8 2 , - 0 White Fang 8 2 Royal Bengal 8 0 King Ford 8 1 There are some speedy sprinters here. Both of the top weights, Consent and Huntingdon, have shown form at the meeting. Refresher and Tradesman filled minor places on Friday. The two Taranaki hacks, The Tiger and Koyal Bengal, should be as good as any of the lightweights. Possibly Huntingdon, Consent and The Tiger may do best. CARBINE PLATE. Of £225, One mile. Grand Spirit 11 4 Seneschal 11 4 Im am in t 11 4 Sports Kmc 11 4 Kiahoremai 11 4 Sub Editor 11 Miss Albyn 11 4 ll < On Approval 11 4 Woodfu •Professor 11 4 Icimint 11 0 Protomint 11 4 Mahki ]l 11 0 Royal Survey 11 4

This event is for gentlemen riders, and Mr. J. Morris’ mount, Seneschal, should have a great chance as r. Morris is much above the average amateur. Protomint and Imamint look we best of the others. TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the a,a ’ naki District Committee was held last evening, when there were present Messrs L. A. Nolan (in the chair). G. Fraser, S. C. Tonks, J. Gray, A. R. Standish and W. D. Graham. The balance-sheet of the District Trust Fund was approved. Further assistance was grantcd to two ex-jockeys. All trainers, jockeys’ and apprentices’ licenses were considered and —the recommendations will be sent forward.
