DESERTION AND ADULTERY
DIVORCE PETITION UNDEFENDED.
MAN V'HO LIVED AT HAWERA.
On the grounds of desertion and adultery by John William David Mason Jackson, Hilda Harriet Jackson was at New Plymouth Supreme Court yesterday granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute after three months. Costs on the lowest scale were ordered against the respondent. She was married on May 29, 1918, at Wellington, said Mrs. Jackson, who lives at Christchurch. Until recently her husband lived at Hawera. Her husband deserted her at Christchurch in March, 1922. He had failed to provide for her and her two children, and petitioner had to go to work. He went to his people at Wanganui. She saw him about two years afterwards and heard from him once. Since then he had not supported her. To His Honour: She 1 was not asking for custody of the children, about 13 and 15 years of age respectively They were with their father’s parents. She had had one of the girls at first but her husband took the girl away. Charles Marshall Buckworth, Hawera, who acted as Jackson’s bookkeeper for 12 months, said Jackson was a travelling draper. Jackson introduced him to * woman he called his wife. There were two children. Jackson disappeared from Hawera on April 8, 1931. His business affairs were not in a good state.
Thomas Herbert, retired farmer, said Jackson was his tenant. Witness occupied a room in the place. With him was a woman described as his wife, and two children. At first there was onlyone child. Witness went away for three months and on his return a second child whs there.
