PIONEERS OF WAIKATO
SETTLERS IN EARLY DAYS.
ASSOCIATION TO BE FORMED.
Although quite a number of years have rolled, by since the Waikato district saw its first white settlers arrive, there are still many people living in those parts who have been associated wits the district since its early days. Some seven years ago the desirability of keeping this band of pioneers together was recognised and the Waikato Enrly Settlers’ Association camo into existence, mainly through the efforts of Mr. C. J. W. Barton, who devoted much time and energy in its interests. No committee was, however, formed, and the' Association ultimately went out of existence. A number of the older people in the town now feel that something should be done to revive it and with this object in view Mr. G. Gillett, who has been in Hamilton for over 50 years, has convened a meeting of early settlers for May 31. All interested are invited to be present at the gathering, the principal business of which will be the setting up of a strong committee to arrange, among other things, an annual reunion to be held round about August 24, when the function under the auspices ■of tho old association was held.
