CAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE. . A collision occurred at the - Convent corner, Inglewood, bn Saturday between a motor-truck mounted with a sawyer’s bench and driven by -Mr. G. A. Smith, Inglewood, and a heavy sedan car driven towards New Plymouth by Mr. Mellow. The sedan was overturned and the bodywork considerably damaged, but the four occupants escaped With minor cuts on their . hands and faces. The truck had one mudguard damaged. , A concert organised by Messrs. W. J. Smith and L. Sutherland was given in the Parish Hall on Thursday in aid of the trust funds of the Methodist Church. The accompaniments were artistically played .by Miss Evelyn Moon (Stratford), and Mi®s Vera Moginie (New Plymoiit.il). Mies Jemison (New Plymouth), Messrs. McPherson and C. Till (Stratford), Mrs. I. E. Faris (Inglewood) and Mr. IV. J. Smith (Inglewood) contributed to the programme. The concert, besides being financially a success, provided the public with a musical treat oi a high standard. The Inglewood branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, when. Mrs. Mareh presided over, a good attendance of members and visitors. Remits were discussed in readiness should the Dominion conference be held in July. The silver vase points prize for t’he junior division chrysanthemum blooms was on view, having been won by Miss Ivv Upson. Mrs. M'areh introduced Mr. Hird, of the Wellington Central school, who gave an interesting and comprehensive address upon his travels in America and Canada. On educational researcaMi'. Hird dealt with kindergarten, primary, junior high and high school life and systems used im the different - States, and with university aspects. Mr. Hird was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, The president explained that, as a result of Mrs. Grofski's suggestion regarding home-made “division” toys to keep the children amused during the meetings, Mrs. Simpson had .donated nine heautifuUy-imiade toys. Miss Simpson, Fitzroy, was present, and explained the making and donated the patterns, lor certain toys, while Miss Simpson, AVestown, deniorisbrated raffia work, ■ using flax instead of cane.
