NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS

RUN FROM THE SHOWGROUNDS.

On Saturday afternoon 37 members of the New Plymouth Harrier Club met at the showgrounds for the weekly run. The conditions were all that could be desired and the runners finished up in good spirits after covering about H miles. The course taken was up the hill, past the golf links and along Devon Road for about half a mile, when the pacemakers of the first pack, J. Warner and F. White, turned and headed for the beach. There was a stretch of very good country, here and there lupin, which made the going slow and allowed the second pack to catch the first. There -were several amusing incidents in t'he second pack when they started across country. One member, while endeavouring to jump a fence, had the misfortune to misjudge the height with the result that he left a large pgrf of, his nether garment behind. '

After reaching the beach the two packs together went across country again to Bell Block and over the main road to the railway line, where a short spell was taken. When a start was made the line was followed at a- steady pace to Smart Road and then, the pack ran in to the starting point. The first and second packs were controlled by R. J. Stewart and 'C. 'C. Robertson respectively. ' The club has had seven runs so far this season and it is pleasing to see that the average attendance is 34. Next week the run will be held from Westown school at 2 p.m.
