WANGANUI PROSPECTS
WBXT3NG CONCLUDES TO-DAY. HSGH FALUHN’ AND CHIEF LINK. (By'“Hurry On.”), The winter meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club will conclude to-day when good fields are down to contest . all events. .Taranaki stables took the-lions share of the stakes on the opening day and appear to again hold a strong hand. The racing will commence at noon with the MAY HURDLES. Of. £lOO. One mile and five furlongs. Conjuror II II 3 Ternden 9 4 Just an Idea 10 12 Mt. Shannon 9 0 Balloon 10 0 Clopton 9 0 Adventus 9 7 The Sun "90 Both Conjuror 11. and Adventus went splendid races on the opening day in the Century' Hurdles, while' Balloon and Fernden showed up. well in the hack event. Just an'ldea is back to hurdling, but his steeplechase outings may not tell in his favour. Mount Shannon may show up if he can jump, but form points to Conjuror 11., Adventus and Balloon. . BELMONT HACK HANDICAP. Of £75. Five furlongs. Royal Interlocutor 8; 0 Hunting 10 2 King. Peg /11 Hampden 9 11' Ba. Crown 7 7 Cereal 8 10 ■' Aralos 7 0 Lady Court 8 1 , ' ’ i Most of those engaged here are smart out of the harrier. Royal Hunting and Hampden have substantial weights, but they are good hacks. Cereal would have to improve on,his first day’s showing, to win, and so would Lady Court. King Peg and Interlocutor can scamper for a few furlongs, and La Crown’s form at Hawera was ' encouraging. Probably Hunting, Hampden and La Crown will be best backed. GONVILLE HACK HANDICAP. Of £75. One mile and a distance. Davistock 9 0 Lady Spy 8 1 Orby’s Choice 8 8 Bon Eve 7 12 ' Kissjess 8 4 Tangiroa t 0 Air Laddie 8 2 Davidstock always goes a solid race and looks sure to be in the money Orby’s Choice is being tried, over a distance of ground and from the way he was finshing on the first day is more than a possibility. Kissless won well on Thursday but is up nearly a. stone in the weights. Air Laddie is too moody., Lady Spy failed badly the first day. Bon Eve does nob appeal, but Tangiora may bring off a surprise. Davidstock, Kissless and Orby’s Choice should fill the places. WANGANUI STEEPLES. Of £l5O. About two miles and a-half. Disrank 10 2 'Jan 9 2‘ Princess JTreehold 9 2 Elizabeth 9 il Kowhatu 9 0 Copey 9 8 Airtight 9 0 Disrank may need the race, though m form he is decidedly useful. Princess Elizabeth’s initial showing over the big country on Thursday was good and she stays on. Copey, who will be bracketed with Airtight, will only have to reproduce his Hawera form 1 to take a lot of beating. On their first day’s showings Jen and : Kowhatu have slender chances, but Freehold is a decided possibility. Fryer’s bracket should be favourite, with money for Princess Elizabeth ' and Freehold. CONNOLLY HANDICAP. .Of £125. One mile and a quarter J Chopin 9 o Whom 7 2 Havering 812 . Mt. Shannon i 0 High Faintin' 8 IS Capetown ' 7 0 Shrewd 7 .7 . , Chopin, Havering and High Falutm all went good races on Thursday and Havering should derive a lot of benefit as the. result of his outing. Shrewd failed, but will go better to-day. / Foghorn appears the best of the lightweights. However, High Falutin, Shrewd and Havering may do best PURUA HACK HANDICAP. Of £75. Six furlongs. Ganpat 9 0 La Crown " 7 3 Orby’s Choice 810 Trader Hora 7 o Gay Court 8 8 Araios . < 0 Sparkling Henry of Mora 6 8 4 Navarre 7 0 Lady Court 7 9 _ ' , Ganpat went a fair race for about five furlongs in open company the opening day and should show up here. Orby’s Choice is well enough' treated if he takes this race in preference to the Gonville. Gay Court came from a long way ■ back on Thursday to get . third, and the smaller field wil be in his favour. It was only the going that beat Sparkling Morn the first day, and if it is firmer to-day she will; take a lot of beating. Lady Court and La Crown look the best of the others. Gay Court, Sparkling Morn and Orby’s Choice will come in for solid‘support.. FAREWELL HANDICAP. Of £lOO. Six furlongs. Arises 9 2 Royal Hunting 7 9 Richfield 8 3 Kaihoro 7 8 Chief Link 8 1 Hampden 7 5 Equitant 7 10 Juggle 7 5 Pomp 7 5 Ganpat 7 0 This is the best field of the day. Arisus on his first day showing would have no chance and Richfield may find the distance too short, even though he won this race last year. Chief Link is improving fast and should strip a fitter horse to-day. Equitant and Kaihoro will set a merry pace and both can see the six furlongs out. Hampden and Juggle are a likely pair of lightweights. In a good pool Chief Link, Kaihoro and Juggle may prove to be the elect of backers. i WITHDRAWAL OF FREEHOLD. By Telegraph.—Press Association.
