REVIVAL OF WORLD TRADE NO TIME FOIR HALF MEASURES OLD TRADITIONS MUST GO BRITISH EXPERT ’S OPINIONS British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, May I’2. The need for international co-opera-tion as an essential to a world trade revival was strongly urged to-day by Sir Eric Geddes, chairman of the Dunlop Rubber Company. Sir Eric insisted the time for half measures was past and. that some traditional policies of European diplomacy must be forgotten. Unless outstanding international difficulties -were solved in the near future the only result could be the collapse of many countries and a paralysis of international trade involving the whole world. Britain’s abandonment of the gold standard, Sir Eric said, might well prove a turning point in the world’s economic history. The post-war international gold standard had broken down and the task in which the British Empire might well take a lead was reconstruction and reorganisation of international commerce with finance possibly on a fresh basis.
