MANAIA CHILDREN'S DANCE

DISPLAY IN FANCY COSTUME. The annual children’s fancy dress dance of the Waimate Horticulural Society w r as held at the town hall on Friday evening, and although the gathering was by no means •as large as in former years there was a very creditable display of fancy costumes and many of the costumes were very attractive. The judging was done by Mr. J. C. Robb and • MrsJ McCormack. Four special prizes were donated, two by Miss A. White, Otakeho, and one each by Mrs. Robb and Mrs. McCormack.

■ The children were trained for the dances by Misses M. Hansen,- Bullock and Hair (2), who supervised the dancing. The children’s dance music was played by Miss Lyna Hickey and Messrs. L. Hughes and B. Badland were masters of ceremonies.

At the conclusion the president, Mr. T. A. Bridge, thanked all present for their assistance. He complimented the children on doing so well. He thanked the judges and. the young ladies .who had trained the children. Special thanks were due .to the donors of the extra prizes, he said. ... An enjoyable supper, was provided by the members of the. ladies’ committee, the. table decorations being. the .work of Mrs. ,E. A. Mitchell.. .The concluding hours were spent: in a dance: for adults for which music was. played by the Dixie, orchestra and Mrs. ,H. R. .Wood. A pleasing ..variation was, a contribution of three, songs by Maurice Clare, a 4-year-old boy who was.warmly applauded.

The Okaiawa Church of England bazaar will be held in the hall to-mor-row (Wednesday) -at 1 -p.m. In the evening there: .will be a concert by a Hawera party,,’folio wed by a dance. The annual meeting.of the MokoiaWhakamara branch of the N.Z.F.U. will be held in the Whakamara Hall to-night at 8 p.m. Mr. H. R. Denize will address . the meeting on the activities of the Department of Agriculture. The Swiss people of the district will hold a masquerade dance in the Manaia Town Hall to-night.
