SHAKESPEARE MEMORIAL
OPENING OF NEW THEATRE
STRATFORD-ON-AVON EN FETE.
WELCOME TO PRINCE OF WALES.
By Telegraph— Press Assn.— Copyright.
Rec. 7 p.m. liondon, April 23. Stratford-on-Avon was gay with flags and flowers to welcome th© Prine© of Wales, who to-day opened th© Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. Th© building has been likened to a warehouse, a factory, and an asylum. It is built in the so-called functional style, meaning architecture strictly subordinated to utility. All the experts agree that, however th© external brick work may he resented, the internal arrangements are perfect. Th© real glories lie behind the scenes. Everything here has been planned on the principle that only the best is good enough. Besides a superb rolling stage, on the lines of th© Stat© Opera Hous© in Berlin, there are large and airy dressing rooms and hot baths, while the auditorium is most comfortable.
