SOCCER AT STRATFORD

ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB.

DIFFICULT FINANCIAL YEAR.

While the Stratford Association Football Club experienced a difficult financial year in common with most sports bodies, the team gave a good performance, and at the annual meeting on ■Saturday night hope was expressed that sufficient players could be found to field a team this season. Mr. T. W. Smith presided over a fair attendance. The report stated that the year had been a difficult one because of a shortage of finance. From a playing viewpoint the team had been well up to standard, having been runners-up in 'both the championship and Priest Shield competitions. The players were to be complimented on the standard of their play and on their excellent discipline and sportsmanship. The following had been selected to play in inter-provincial •games: L. Henderson, W. McGrory, H. tB. Millar, J. Rayner and H. Gibbs. Members had presented a clock to Mr. H. Gibbs on the occasion of his marriage.

The club had been fortunate in having had the generous support of the patron, Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., the president, Mr. T. W. Smith, and the vicepresidents, Messrs A. H. Hillock nd C. ■Mcl. Young. The club was indebted to the referees for their control of games. Thanks were due to Messrs E. Grierson and W. Pellfett for their assistance and courtesy.

The balance-sheet showed a small debit balance. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P.; president, Mr. T. W. Smith; vice-presidents, Messrs A. H. Hillock and C. Mcl. Young; secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Littlejohn; selector and club captain, deferred; executive, Messrs H. B. Millar, L. Jones and J. Thomson; delegates to Taranaki Football Association, Messrs Millar and Thomson.
