Mrs. Keith Miller, the Australian airwoman, and Captain Lancaster, are held in the county gaol at Aliami for an investigation into the shooting of Haden Clark, an aeroplane pilot. The statements given to the police by the two ascribed the wound in Clark’s head to attempted suicide. Airs. Miller said that she was awakened shortly before daylight by Lancaster, who told her that Clark had shot himself. She said that she went with Lancaster to where Clark’s body lay and saw a pistol under his body. Lancaster said, that he and Clark retired to the porch where they slept about 12.45 a.m. “We talked about an hour of our home troubles and several other things,” he said. He was awakened, he continued, by a report some time later, and heard Clark making funny noises. ‘1 turned on the light and saw that his face was covered wit 1 ’ blood and that he was lying on his side. I ran to Airs. Miller’s room and got her up.” Later he called a physician and attorney and Clark was taken to a hospital. Mrs. Clark, mother of the injured Than, said that the police showed her a typewritten note to Airs. Miller which said* "I cannot stand. the economic pressure. Will y°u please sustain my mother in her deep grief.” Airs. Clark said she could not be sure that the signature was her son’s, but she expressed the opinion that he shot himself.
