NAZIS IN DISFAVOUR
CLASS WAR IN GERMANY. BITTER POLITICAL FIGHTS. London, April 12. German poltics have been reduced almost to naked class war, says the Berlin correspondent of the Manchester Guardian.
Workers confront the entire bourgeoisie, which frequently uses, or at least, does not disapprove of terrorism. Farm labourers east of the Elbe, who are openly against Herr Hitler, run the risk of dismissal.
In the smaller provincial towns, support of the Republican democracy may mean an economic boycott, or social ostracism.
The Nazi “storm troops” contain an extraordinarily big element of gangsters and hooligans, many of whom ha,ve been convicted of various crimes, including murder. They are found among the higher ranks, including Parliamentary candidates. German industrialists,' civil servants and the professional classes, have hardly a word of disapproval for the depravity and barbarism that is flourishing among tli9 The fact that the German bourgeoisie is being depressed to the economic level of the workers imparts to the struggle a ferocity of rancour and despair. The Hitler meetings often work the audiences up to a lynching mood, which is horrible and nauseating to the nonGerman observer.
The Prussian elections are not an ordinary contest. The Nazis seek to establish class domination, imposing administrative despotism upon a civilised and fundamentally democratic community. It is not likely that any party will obtain a majority in the Prussian Diet.
The Nazi “storm troops” have now been disbanded by order of the President, Marshal yon Hindenburg.
