BULLET THROUGH WINDOW
WELLINGTON TRAMCAR STRUCK. OONDUOTORIS NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. While a eity-.bound tramcar was proceeding down Adelaide Road this evening a missile presumed to be a bullet pierced a window. The conductor had a narrow escape, glass splinters falling close to him. The missile struck a window at the rear of the saloon or control compartment, the only occupant of which was the conductor. If a shot was fired the discharge of the weapon was drowned by the noise of the moving tram. The conductor heard a sharp crack and saw splinters fly. The hole corresponded approximately to that which would be made by a .22 calibre bullet or pellet. The opposite pane showed no sign of damage, but this window, was _ partly open and it is presumed the missile flew through the gap. Detectives searched the compartment when the tram readied the dispatch office, but nothing of assistance in the investigation -was found.
