WAITARA BAR FATALITY;

MR. ALLEN’S BODY FOUND MILE NORTH-EAST OF THE RIVER NO SIGN OF CAPTAIN HALCBOW. Search parties patrolling the beach north-east of the Waitara River mouth, following the sinking of the launch Swan while trying to cross the bar on Wednesday morning, met with partial success early yesterday morning, when the body of Alfred Allen was found. There was no sign of the body of Captain Halcrow. The search parties strengthened when the tide began to make after 10 o’clock on Wednesday night, and large numbers were on the beach till midnight. The majority then returned, home, Mr. Frank Glare continuing alone. Soon afterwards he found Mr. Alien’s body left on the beach by the receding tide over a mile from the river mouth.

Mr. Alien’s footwear was missing when the body was discovered, but a shoe was found latex' just along the beach, also the fishing apron Captain Halcrow had been wearing. Mr. Clare searched until 3.30 and the patrol was resumed later in the morning, but nothing further was found by nightfall. . Constable J. Tocher and Captain T. J. Wood, harbourmaster, who were in charge of the operations, stated last night that the search parties would be out again at 2 o’clock this morning. The inquest into the fatality was opened at Waitara yesterday morning before Mr. W. F. Jenkins, J.P., acting coroner. Evidence of identification was o-iven by the finder of the body, and the inquiry was then adjourned to Sunday.
