CATTLE TICK MENACE
NEW ZEALAND’S EMBARGO.
SYDNEY EXPORTERS COMPLAIN.
Complaints are being received in Auckland from Sydney produce exporters against the embargo imposed upon New South Wales grain and fodder by the New Zealand Government, owing to the spread of cattle tick in the Australian State.
Ono leading Sydney • firm, in a letter received in Monday’s mail, stated that the bulk of the farming areas, as far as oats, wheat, oaten chaff, etc., were concerned, was in the west or in the Riverina, which was far south and hundreds of miles away from any tick infection. Victoria was buying in that State, taking oats across to Victoria and shipping them to New Zealand. The tick had not touched that State, excepting to a limited extent, or the north coast dairying areas and inland about 150 to 200 miles behind the Northern River districts on the Tableland. It was added that the New South Wales Department, of Agriculture would certify that the produce from those areas was grown in clean territory, far from any infection, and the question was asked if grain'and fodder carrying this certificate would be admitted by the Dominion.
