THIEVES PUT TO FLIGHT. STOLEN CAR RECOVERED. A woman whose car had been stolen by three men gave chase to them in Sydney recently and, eventually jumping on to the running board, put them to flight. Mrs. Vera McAlister, of Kensington, left her car outside a house not far from her home shortly after midday, while shp visited some friends. Five minutes later she returned. The ear had disappeared. A bystander informed her that three men had hastily entered the car and had driven away at a .high speed. _ •• ' ’ Summoning a passing taxi-cab Mrs. McAlister set off in pursuit. She saw her car in Long Bay Road and gave chase. The stolen car was higher powered than the taxi and rapidly outstripped it. Mrs. McAlister then notified the Daceyville police of the theft and a police patrol car and a wireless car in charge of Sergeant Tindale joined in the chase. While cruising along Bunnerong Road Mrs. McAlister again sighted the stolen car being driven toward her. It 1 was travelling slowly. She left her taxi and as the car was passing her leaped on to the running board. “Get out. This is my car!” she shouted.
“If you don’t get off we will throw you off,” the driver replied. He lufiged. over and attempted to push her off the running board, but the woman clung tenaciously to the side of the car. Realising that Mrs. McAlister would attract attention, the men drove the car off the road on to a clearing near some scrub at Matraville. Hastily they scrambled out of the car and ran into the scrub. When the police arrived the men had disappeared.
