MAN FLIES INTO TREE

AEROPLANE SMASHED. GRAZIER PILOT UNttNJURiED. Mr. James Valentine Fairbairn, grazier, of Mount Elephant, Derrinallum, Victoria, had a remarkable escape from injury recently when his Moth aeroplane crashed in a paddock. Mr. Fairbairn was talcing off to return home from a meeting. He had not adjusted his goggles, and it is believed that in putting up his hand to adjust them he moved the controls, and the aeroplane flew into the only tree in the paddock. A huge limfi was carried away and the tail of the machine was thrown high into the air, the nose being buried in the earth. A branch of the tree pierced the right wing, and the front of the aeroplane up to the cockpit was smashed. Despite the force of the landing, Mr. Fairbairn emerged scathless except for a small scratch on the forehead.
