NEW PLYMOUTH DOWNPOUR
WATER DAMAGES WATER-TABLES.
A rain squall in New Rlymouth last night upset the borough council staff s work of filling the water-tables to reduce the camber in Devon Street because the newly-laid tarviated chips were scoured out by'the storm water, with the result that the water-tables in the lower levels were blocked. When the showers were heaviest water surged across the footpaths. Sumps in some parts of the town were unable to cope with the downpour at times and pedestrians suffered inconvenience, more especially at the Currie and Devon Streets intersection and at tiie Westown tram terminus.
