CORRESPONDENCE

CARRINGTON-WIREMU- STRATFORD ROAD, i (To the Editor.) Sir, —Will you allow me space in your valuable paper to draw the attention of the powers that be to the state of settlers fronting the above road. The above is a through road between New Plymouth and Stratford, but the Upper Carrington 'and the Wiremu roads block the traffic for want of metalling. Fortyeight years ago the Government let the contract to fell the bush on the Wiremu Road and the land was taken up, but nothing further was done to five the settlers an outlet, and rates ave been paid all these years. Recently the Public Works Department erected the bridges, but the bridges are no good to the settlers without a road. This through road is controlled by four county councils and two borough councils. There is no doubt if the road was put through it would become a very popular route for tourists round the mountain and to Dawson Falls. The Stratford County Council has tar-sealed the portion under its control and it is a pity the other county councils concerned will not follow that good example. If this road was put through it would be a great boon to the settlers and the district. Surely . with all the unemployed and the powers that be something can be done to relieve the settlers.—l am, etc., SETTLER.
