During the week-eud a party of tennis players from Oaonui visited the Pungarehu courts for a friendly match and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. _ Oaonui is a new club and its members in many cases show much promise. Results were (Pungarehu names first): Men’s singles: B. Brophy beat Quig ey 6—4, t. Kira beat Tioki 6—3, W. Priest beat Henn- 6—2, T. Okeroa beat 'Morrison 6—3, A. Bensley beat Davis 6—3. Ladies’ singles: Miss. C. Brophy beat Miss M. Penni gton 6—o, Miss M. Brophy beat Miss M. Brewer 6—l, Miss E. Gilhooley beat Mrs. Macdonald 6—2, Miss I. Gray lost to Miss J. Pennington 5_6, Mrs. E. Gray beat Miss Yandle 6—l. tl , T -. Men’s doubles: B. Brophy and 1. Kira, beat Quigley and Henn 6-2, J Pnest and T. Okeroa beat Tioki and Morrison Ladies’ doubles: Misses C. and M. Brophy beat Misses Pennington and Brewer 6—5, Misses E. Gilhooley and I. Gray beat Mrs. Macdonald and Miss J. Pennington 6—4. Combined doubles: B. Brophy and Miss E. Gilhooley beat M. S. Quigley and Miss M. Brewer 6—3, T. Kira and Miss C. Brophy beat Henn and Miss M. Pennington 6—o, T. Okeroa and Miss M. Brophy 3 beat Tioki and Mrs. MacDougall 6 —3, A. Bensley and Miss I. Gray lost to Morrison and Miss J. Pennington 2—6, T. Gilhooley and Mrs. Gray lost to Davis and Miss Yandle o—6. Pungarehu emerged victors by 16 sets to three. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies. Mr. M. 8. Quigley thanked Pungarehu on behalf of the Oaonui club and expressed the hope that moie matches would be held. Mr.'A. Roots replied. The start' of the Cape Egmont Dairy Company on Friday night held its first ball, and it is to' be hoped that this will become an annual fixture. The ha 1
was decorated with flags and the supper room was hung with red and white streamers, while the tables were arranged with good things and flowers. The 5 floor was perfect and was crowded with dancers until 3 a.m. to music supplied by Vinsen’s Ambassadors. Novelty dances were conducted throughout the evening and Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr. Trye and s Miss J Newport and by Mr. W. Fleming and Miss J. Cochrane. A cushion donated by Miss I. Corbett was won by Mrs. Butler (Rahotu) and a cake presented, by Mr. Woolier was won by'Mrs. Grinlinton. A scent satchet was won by Mr. W. Corbett The first two competitions were really the finalising of two commenced on the gala day held some time previi° U Extras were played by Miss E. Gilhooley and Mrs. F. E. Grinlinton and the master of ceremonies was Mr. A. Bensley. As a result of the effort the hall funds will benefit as all proceeds are to be donated for that purpose. All branches of the factory staff worked well to ensure the success of the function and they are Io be congratulated upon (the result of their efforts.
