A Bill for the control of broadcasting introduced in the House of Representatives sets up a commission of five, including a chairman with a salary Of £5OO per year, which will be empowered to appoint its own general manager and other staff and will be responsible for all aspects of the broadcast of programmes, the establishment of agencies for. the collection of suitable news, permitting the publication of radio magazines, the development of local talent and, later, the organisation of a national orchestra. The newspaper conference at Melbourne has telegraphed the Prime Minister (Mr. J. A. Lyons) protesting against a provision in the Bill permitting the acceptance of ad-\ vertising matter by A class stations and contending that advertisements should not be accepted by stations subsidised with public money.
