EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE
NORTH TARANAKI BRANCH. ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR YEAR. The annual meeting of the North Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held on Friday at the Technical College, New Plymouth. Mr. J. E. Shimmin presided over a we 11 -attended meeting. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, the latter showing a satisfactory position. The year had been a busy one, especially for the managing committee,. Departmental regulations often forced by the Government’s necessity to reduce expenditure had been frequent, sudden and binding. The institute’s plea, however, was that the child should not be called upon to suf-
fer more than necessary, for a lack of education would handicap him throughout his future life. '
Mr. J. A. Valentine, deputy-chairman of the Education Board, attended and; explained what had been done regarding the forthcoming physical instruction classes. The following committees were set up to take control when the classes met and to make the necessary arrangements: Inglewood, Mr. C. A. McKinney to arrange: New Plymouth, Misses Andrews, Papps and Robertson, Messrs. Evans, Adlam and Goldsbury. The library committee furnished a satisfactory report on the year’s work. Regret was expressed at the loss of Mr° N. R. McKenzie as chairman of the committee. The chief inspector, Mr. J. A. Henry, would take Mr. McKenzie’s place as chairman of the committee.
