PUNGAREHU NOTES

SUCCESS OF EUCHRE PARTY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very successful euchre party was held in the Pungarehu hall on Saturday evening, the funds being raised for v the benefit of the hall building. The tables were crowded with players. The results were: Mrs. H. Gilhooley 1, Miss M. Newport 2, Miss D. Smith consolation; Mr. H. Hanright 1, Mr. A. Newport 2, Mr. J. W. Priest consolation. After supper dancing was enjoyed until midnight. The music was supplied by Miss E. Gilhooley, extras being played by Mrs. F. E. Grinlinton. Mr. T. Brophy was master of ceremonies. During the evening three competitions were finalised, the winners being: Ham, Mr. A, Pentlow (Oaonui); Easter dinner, Mr. A. Deacon (Warea); crystal bowl, Miss J. Corbett (Warea). The promoters of these evenings are to be congratulated upon the success that has attended their efforts. FRIENDLY TENNIS MATCH. During the week-end a party of tennis players from Warea visited the Pungarehu courts for a return friendly match. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The results were (Pungarehu names first): —- Ladies’ singles: Miss C. Brophy 5 v. v. Miss N. Wells 6, Miss M. Brophy 2 v. Miss J. Lewis 6, Miss E. Gilhooley 6 v. Miss Gernhoefer 2, Miss M. Doody 6 v. Miss R. Wells 3, Miss I. Gray 4 v. Miss M. Doyle 6. Men’s singles: W. Priest 6 v. H. Wells 3, B. Brophy 6 v. B. Fowlds 0, T. Brophy 1 v. R. Payne 6, J. W. Priest 6 v. R. Fowlds 1, T. Kira 6 v. L. Wells 0. Ladies’ doubles: Misses C. and M. Bropliy 6 v. Misses N. Wells and Gernhoefer 5, Misses E. Gilhooley and Mrs. Gray 6 v. Misses R. Wells and J. Lewis 2. Men’s doubles: W. Priest and B. Brophy 6 v. B. Fowlds and H. Wells 2, J. W. Priest and T. Brophy 6 v. R. Payne and R. Fowlds 3. Combined doubles: Miss C. Brophy and W. Priest 6 v. Miss N. Wells and H. Wells 4, Missw M. Brophy and J. W. Priest 3 v. Miss J. Lewis and R. Payne 6, Miss E. Gilhooley and B, Brophy 6 v. Miss Gernhoefer and B. Fowlds 1, Mrs. Priest, and T. Brophy 6 v. Miss M. Doyle and L. Wells 1, Miss M. Doody and T. Kira 6 v. Miss R. Wells and R. Fowlds 2. Pungarehu emerged victors by 14 sets to 5. The ladies of the club provided afternoon tea.
