SCHOOLBOYS ON TOUR

WARM HOSPITALITY SHOWN.

AUiOKUAINIDERiS IN SYDNEY.

(N;Z. Herald Correspondent,) Sydney, January 7.

The visiting party of Now Zealand schoolboys had a real ta&te of Sydney a chief summer recreation last week when they surfed at Bondi and Coogee. The boys were welcomed at Bondi Beach by the Mayor of Waverley, Aiderman D. Hunter, and Aiderman A. McNivan. The lads were given the freedom of the surf sheds and tho beach by the Waverley council, and they were quick to avail themselves of the privilege. They heartily agreed with their director, Mr. T. A. Lappin, when, in reply to the Mayor’s welcome, he said that thev would carry away many pleasant recollections of Bondi. The boys displayed a keeir interest in the activities of tho Boudi Surf Club, and for their benefit the members of the club gave an exhibition of surf life-saving. The lade heard terrible tales of shark attacks and were anxious to see the shark net at Coogee. Accordingly, after luncheon, the party visited Coogee, where again they bathed in the surf with full appreciation of the additional safety., They were noticed by the members of the Coogee Surf Club, and the club officials made them honorary members of the club for the day. The lads were loath to leave the beach and return to tho city before their departure for Melbourne.

'The boys were asked to give their impressions of Sydney. Here are some of the replies, all by Auckland boys:— Jack Morrison: Your 'traffic regulations seem to be those of Mr. Rafferty, but I suppose it is because of the greater and swifter traffic.

Edward Buckley: If a ship let oil go into some of our harbours, like we saw one yesterday, the company would be fined. That harbour of yours is too good to spoil. Athol Smerdon: Bondi surf rooms and life-savers make ours look small fish.

Ivan Kurd: I thought you had a depression here. Why, everyone seems to have tons of money. Roy Kiney: The bridge is a knock-out.
