The total weight of the currency, all of which was fresh from the mint, was three pounds. The cake is of immense dimensions and it is estimated that when baked it will weigh over half a ton. To ice it two cwt. of sugar will be used. The official party yesterday inspected a cake made from a similar recipe and was satisfied that it was of the highest quality. The richness of the mixture can be visualised when it is understood that 15011 b. of butter, 1551 b. of sugar, 2501 b. of flour, 60011 b. of fruit and 1250 eggs are included. So far as is possible the ingredients are all New Zealand products and in the main came from South Taranaki. The fruit, which could not be procured from a New Zealand source, is Australian. Officials present expressed themselves as proud that such a huge cake could be baked in Hawera. When completed the cake, which will be surmounted by 50 candles, will be publicly exhibited in Hawera. It will be cut during the jubilee celebrations.
