TARANAKI JUSTICES
ANNUAL REPORT ON WORK. A membership of 108 is recorded in the report of the Taranaki Justices Association to be presented at. the. annual meeting on Thursday. Mention is made of the death of the New Plymouth members Messrs. W. H. HaddreU, J. O. Taylor and T. Veale. Three social evenings were held during the year, two at-New Plymouth and one at Stratford; all were well attended. At the meetings in New Plymouth addresses were given by Colonel C. 11. Weston, on Judge Jeffreys and by Mr. L M. Moss on some unexpected results from the legislation with regard to the property of married women, while at Stratford an address on certain duties of Justices. of the Peace was< given by Mr P ■ Thomson. The thanks of the association were due to those, men and women who contributed m various ways to the success of these meetings. . Owing to the . general depression of business, throughout the Dominion it was deemed inadvisable to hold the annual conference of the federation in March last,' butAt now. proposed to hold a conference at Wanganui on March 8 and the following day. . The Federation of Justices Associations sustained a great loss during the year owing to the sudden death of the registrar (Mr. L Salek), who had taken a very active part in the formation and Of ths federation aa well as
being registrar oi the Wellington association. Mr. A. J. Stratford, Auckland, was appointed by the executive to be actingregistrar of the federation until a permanent appointment was made. Thanks were expressed to the Registrar of the Supreme Court (Mr. H. Gilmore Smith), for allowing a room at the courthouse to be used for meetings of the association.
