SOLDIERS’ PROPOSAL

VISIT OF GRAF ZEPPELIN. SYDNEY BRIDGE CEREMONY. The New South Wales branch of the Returned Soldiers’ League proposes to invite Germany to send the Graf Zeppelin to take part in the opening of the Harbour Bridge. Before it definitely decides in the matter, the league will secure the opinions of returnpd men in general. At the last meeting of the Bankstown sub-branch of the league, the president, Mr. A. Bray, who is a member of the New South Wales State executive,..said that, unofficially, for his guidance, he would accept the members’ views ,jas a body of returned men. He added that it was thought, that .the Zeppelin would carry a large number of wealthy German tourists, -in addition io the> crew, and local businesses' would materially, benefit by the tour.

Mr. E. Palmer, who ' served as a ser-geant-major for over 20 years with.the Royal Engineers, declared that in his opinion the War had been over long enough to fotgivo their enemies. He sajd that if the'invitation was extended it would be a fitting gesture of this, and that ft would be adopted all over 'the-world as an indication of Australia’s desire for world peace. The sentiments of Mr. Raimer were unanimous!v supported by the rest of the members, about 100.
