Roberta, who hae been visiting Wellington for some months, has returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. W. P. Martin gave a most enjoyable kitchen tea on Saturday evening in honour of Miss Ruth Moody, whose marriage takes place shortly. • * • • Mrs. O- N. Firth and Miss Olive Firth leave this morning by car for Rotorua. Mies U. Trolove, who has been the guest of Mrs. Sumner for a few days, leaves to-day on her return to Eltham. Ml«» V. Moginle is visiting Auckland. Mrs. Hawkins and family arrive from Whangarei to-day and will be the guests of Mrs. J. W. Foreman. Mrs. P. C. Davie left on Monday on a visit to Timaru. i Mrs. J. Austin left on Monday for Dunedin and will be the guest of her sister, Miss Cole. Miss H. Rollo and Miss A. Rollo left on Monday for Auckland to stay with Mrs. Bell, Howick. Mrs. H. C. Baker left to-day for Palmerston North and is the guest of her sister, Miss Warren. i Mrs. J. C. Maxwell left on Monday to spend the holiday* in Auckland. Miss B. Bacchus, who ha* been visiting Mrs. H. W- Saxton, left on Monday for Otaki. Mies M. Papps, infant mistress at the Central school, New Plymouth, left on Monday to spend the holiday* at Nelson. Miss Taylor, Puniho, left on Monday to spend the vacation in Invercargill. ' Miss Schieb, Mimi, left New Plymouth at the beginning of the week to spend the vacation with her parents at Cromwell, Central Otago. » * • * A “kitchen” evening in honour of Miss Marjorie Smith, whose marriage takes place early next month, was given by Mies Margaret Fookcs and Miss Bobby Carthew at the residence of Mrs. Fookes on Monday evening. Last night Miss Ethel Grover also entertained at a “gift” evening, at which Miss Smith was the guest of honour. 1 ENGAGEMENTS. CLARKE—GAYTON. The engagement is announced of Bessie, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Gayton, New Plymouth, to Marcus Davenport, eldest son. of Mrs. A. E. Clarke, Auckland. ' VINTEN—RICHARDSON. Kathleen Chase Richardson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Ricliardson, Fenton Street, Stratford, to Jack Vinten, Hawera, second son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Vinten, Wickstead Street, Wanganui. HAWERA ITEMS. A pleasant afternoon was spent at the home of Miss Alvinza Curtis on Monday, when she gave a party for her pupil*. Pianoforte solos and duets were played by Misses Joan McGill, Peggy Cran, Keren Pratt, Thelma Cox,. Aitesa Cordery and Marjorie Armstrong, Masters Erie Kendall and Tliornby Lewis. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn, where games were played by the children. ' Miss Daisy Prout, Hawera, passed first in book-keeping and shorthand and second in type-writing in the recent junior commercial examinations at the Wanganui Convent.
