WAREA PUBLIC SCHOOL

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. A large gathering oif parents and friends of the Warca school children assembled in the school on Friday afternoon for the annual prize-giving ceremony. The scene was a happy one, proud children taking parents and friends to the arts gallery to show them their work, which was a credit to the children and their instructors (Mr. Longley and Miss Gernhocfer). Mr. A. J. Lilley, chairman of the committee, before presenting a prize to each child in the school, spoke of the good work done during the year, both in studies and in ground improvements, one outstanding 'feature being the new tennis court and lawns, for which Mr. Longley was chiefly responsible. A programme was given by the children, after which afternoon 'tea was served by the ladies. Items were: Piano solo, Patricia Lawn; recitations, Joan Wolstenholme and Willie Taiaroa; song, junior pupils, “Little Nut Tree”; recitations, 'Tim Johns, Enid Wolstenholme, Gordon Stotit, Noel Stanley, Violet Pakipaki, Graham OoHdw.el’l, IPcggy Bailey, William Coldwell, Eric Edgecombe, Colin Wells; piano solos, Patricia Fox and Joyce Hammond; songs, “Marching Through Georgia,” “John Peel.” and “Goodnight Chorus,” senior pupils; flongs, “Golden Slumber'’ and “Come Little Leaves," junior pupils; folk dance, eight junior girls.
