DEMAND FOR WAR

EMBARRASSING ACTION. CHINESE STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE Shanghai, Nov. 27. In spite of the refusal of Marshal Chiang Kai-shek to see them, 12,000 Chinese students stood before the National Government building at Nanking to-day, amid a driving snowstorm, demanding that China declare war on Japan. Students from all parts of the country, like those of Shanghai, who commandeered trains to convey them there without payment of fares, are staying in the capital without lodging or money, many even without food. They are suffering considerably from the cold and threaten a hunger strike unless the Government will accede to their wishes. Yesterday they stood in drizzling rain shouting war slogans. The Government has issued a statement condemning the action of the students as embarrassing the Governmenfi. 'but tty, school children—lboys and girls—are remaining firm in their intention to demonstrate.
