HAWERA SCHOOL BALL

STRIKING FANCY COSTUMES. GAY SCENE IN THE HALL. St. Joseph’s Hall, Hawera, was a blaze of colour last night when pupils of the convent school attended a fancy dress ball. Under special lighting a gaily bedecked crowd of happy children disported themselves in a setting of well arranged decorations. Many and varied were the costumes worn, and the creations were all artistic. The children spent the hours pleasantly with the old dances and some of the quaint and beautiful folk dances taught them by the nuns. The hall was crowded. Large committees did. excellent organisation work with Miss M. Bartlett as secretary. Messrs. G. Loader and F. Doyle were masters of ceremonies and Mrs. W. A. Quin provided the music. The decorations were in flame, orange and yellow and the supper tables were gay with vases of Iceland poppies. Supper was provided by the parishioners.
