SUBSIDY ON FERTILISERS

DATE OF ITS EFFECTIVENESS. EARLIER APPLICATION SOUGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. F. Lye asked the Minister of Agriculture in the House of Representatives to-day whether in connection with the Government subsidy on superphosphates for farmers he would arrange for the concession to be effective as from October 1 last. The Hon. D. Jones pointed out that some days before the grant was made a notice was published in the newspapers that the arrangement was likely to be made by the Government. He was sorry the Government could not agree to set the date back to October 1. He thought the farmers had had sufficient notice of the fact that an agreement was likely to be made. He pointed out that whatever date was specified for delivery there were bound to be some farmers who unfortunately would not obtain the benefit.
