PRESIDENT FAREWELLED

MR. C. 11. WESTON AND ROTARY. An president of the New Plymouth Rotary Club, Mr. C. H. Weston, who leaves' New Plymouth this morning to commence practice in Auckland as a barrister, was farewelled by Rotarians yesterday at their weekly luncheon. Rotarian R. W. D. Robertson said they all felt great regret that Mr. Weston was leaving the town and the club. He had been one of the best members of the club and a true Rotarian in every sense. In future he was sure they would find Mr. Weston carrying out the principles of Rotary, even though he might not be a member of a club. After the Rotarians assembled had sung “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” Mr.° Weston expressed thanks for the kindly references that had been made to him. While he could not say he had been the best Rotarian, he could say he had been the happiest. He would leave the club and Rotary with the greatest regret, for while he had been in the movement he had made many new friendships that he hoped would persist. One of the chief results of Rotary was that they got to know other men, and his experience was that the more one knew men the better one liked them. He wished the club and its members the best of luck. In handing over the office of president, Mr. Weston said he felt sure that Mr. R. W. D. Robertson would be a sure and safe guide as their leader. Not only had Mr. Robertson the external qualities necessary for the position, but he had the internal qualities as well. He considered Mr. Robertson would make an admirable president and suggested he should have been appointed at the beginning of the year. Perhaps, said Mr. Weston, Providence was taking a hand in the affairs of the club by removing him somewhat hurriedly so tliat Mr. Robertson might occupy the presidency and hold it not only for the rest of the year, but, he hoped, for the following year as well.
