WAREA NEWS

A meeting of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Warea Hall on Wednesday night. About 60 members heard the lecture given by Mr. Hill Motion. A subbranch of the Okato Farmers’ Union was formed and the following committee elected: Messrs. A. J. Lilley, €. W. Revell, E.' E. Chapman, W. Stott, T., Putt, J. Aylward. The Warea Ladies’ Guild held a meeting on Thursday afternoon and a credit balance of £3l in the bank wae shown. A vote of thanks was accorded the secretary, Mrs. F. Sole, senr., for the splendid work she had done during the year. The fine weather of the week-end enticed the sporting members of the community out-of-doors. The local tennis courts and bowling green were eeenes of enjoyment. Fishing enthusiasts were numerous on all rivers, but bo far no large bags have been reported. The opening of the Warea bowling green and new pavilion will take place to-morrow and if the time flpent and work done by the bowlers during the past few weeks is any indication, the green will be in perfect order. Not only has work been done on the green itself, but the surrounding grounds have been planted with flowers, shrubs, horse shoe ferns and pungas. The annual meeting of the Tennis Club was held on Saturday night. The following officers were elected for the coming season: President, Mr. H. Wells; secretary, Mr. B. Fowles; committee, Measra. C. Moss, F. Fowles, E. Chapman, R. Hammond, Hammond and G. Muir. It was decided to hold the opening of the courts on October 24. At a recent meeting of the Warea Girls’ Basketball Club a donation of £1 la was voted to the Warea Bowling Club in aid of the building of the new pavilion. A basketball nd £1 Is were donated to the local school. Mr. Frank Sole, aenr., who met with an accident a few weeks ago in New Plymouth, ie improving slowly.
