INDIANS’ DEATH SENTENCE
MURDER OF A BRITISH OFFICER ATTACKED SLEEPING IN TRAIN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Ree. 8.5 p.m. Delhi, Sept. 22. Yeswant Singh and Deonarayan were sentenced to death and Dalapat to transportation for life for the murder of Lieut. Hext and the attempted murder of Lieut. Sheehan, two British officers, while sleeping in the Punjab mail train on July 23. The two officers were travelling to P-oona and were attacked while sleeping. Their assailants leapt from the train and disappeared in the jungle. Lieut. Hext later died from his wounds. Lieut. Sheehan stated that he was awakened by the barking of a dog in the same compartment. He saw two men armed with daggers who killed the dog and then attacked Lieut. Hext. Lieut. Sheehan then jumped from the train.
