SAVED BY A DOG
INJURED PROSPECTOR. NOTE SENT BY TERRIER. How a dog assisted in the rescue of a prospector lying injured in an isolat-. ed spot near Uralla, New South Wales* was told by Mr. Charles Garrett, wh<> is now in hospital. Mr. Garrett sent his pick into a 15ft. bank, and several tons of earth crashed about him. Fortunately, the bulk of. earth missed him; but he was thrown, down, and his leg snapped. He knew; that he could not crawl any distance. So he wrote a note and tied it to ths collar of his terrier. After pelting clod® of earth at the dog and scolding her* she ran off; but finding no one at hlfi camp, returned. Again Mr. Garrett sent the dog away and four hours later she returned with his son and some friends. Mr. Garrett stated that had it not been for the dog he would have had to spend a night ia the bush.
