PERSONAL AND GENERAL.A very successful street stall was held on Friday in aid of funds for the new.-: ly formed Kaponga branch of the Legion of Frontiersmen. The stall was controlled by Mesdames’J. Guy, W. Carrington and F. Albon and netted about £C clear. There was a plentiful supply of vegetables, jams, preserves, eggs and home-made cakes which were all disposed of. During the day three competitions were arranged, the ' winners being: Dinner, Mrs. J. Guy; 51b tin tea, Mr. Hugh Linn. The third competition for a box of chocolates, was not completed and will be decided in a day or two.
A movement is afoot to form a Thursday cricket team in Kaponga. The playing grounds are good and the movement should receive strong support. The Kaponga junior Rugby team by defeating Patca at Hawera on Saturday are the winners of the South Taranaki championship. They have yet to play with the winners of the northern division, but as this competition is not yet finished it is not known when the final for the Taranaki championship will take place. Last week the sum of £2O 19s was paid to workers under the Unemployment Board’s number five scheme. The local bodies employing the men at present are Kaponga Town Board, Eltham County Council, Riverlea School Committee, Awatuna School Committee and Makaka Domain Board. The number of registrations for the Kaponga district has been considerably reduced during the past two weeks as a result of men finding work elsewhere. The number of registrations at Kap-tnga is 27. A few weeks a?o it was over 40.
Miss M. Frood left on Monday for Auckland, where she is spending the term holidays. ■ ,
Miss Doris Guy. who is attending Wellington East Girls’ College, is home for the holidays. Mrs. M. Fallows, Napier, Is spending a holiday at Kaponga with her son, Mr. F. W. Fallows. She is accompanied by Mr. Fallow's niece, Miss S. Robinson,
Miss M. I. Power, who was for some years on the teaching staff of the Kaponga State school before taking up a similar position at the Brooklyn school, Wellington, is spending a few days at Kaponga en route for Auckland. She is the guest of Mrs. J. Hessell. Mr. McKenzie, inspector of machinery, is visting Kaponga. Miss.A.
