EVERYBODY’S. MATINEE TO-DAY 2 P.M. All of Marilyn Miller’s art as an actress, a dancer, ami a singer come to the fore in “Sunny,” the First National and Vitaphone version of her famous musical comedy which ran for three years on Broadway. Miss Miller is to-day recognised as the outstanding star of musical comedy, and is one of the brightest luminaries in filmdoin. Her picture, “Sally,” broke all box office records for the year, and “Sunny” is being hailed as an even greater success. It commences a season of three matinees and three nights at Everybody’s to-day at 2 and 7.45 p.m. There are four songs and three dances in “Sunny,” but there are no ensemble choruses. All the dances are by Miss Miller alone, or accompanied by the versatile Joe Donahue, of the Irish smile, who played with her on the stage. The plot of “Sunny” bubbles over with humour, romance and. tom-foolery, and gives complete play to all of Miss Miller’s varied accomplishments as well as to her beauty and her vivid personality. One of the strongest casts of the year has been assembled by Director William A. Seiter for “Sunny.” It includes, in addition to Joe Donahue, Lawrence Gray, 0. P. Heggie, Inez Courtney, Judith Vosselli, Barbara Bedford, Clyde Cook, Mackenzie Ward and many others. The supporting programme will include Australian Movietone News, J. Barris (vaudeville artist), Larry Cebalos Revue, Audio Review, “Prediction” (playlet) and “Holiday in Storyland” (coloured novelty).
THE REGENT.
MATINEE TO-DAY 2 P.M.
“Sweethearts and Wives” and “Courage,” acclaimed as the greatest two-star programme ever presented, comes to The 'Regent to-day at 2 and 7.45 p.m. “Sweethearts and Wives” tells an enthralling and amusing story in a manner that can only be described as one hundred per cent, efficient. The dialogue is clever and' sparkling, and is perfectly reproduced. The story is all about a stolen diamond necklace. There is a little lonely inn in the south of France where the action takes place—and it’s the sort of action that keeps you sitting on the edge of your chair. Billie Dove, Clive ■ Brook and Leila Hyams are starred. The extent to which a mother will fight to protect lier children is dramatically and uproariously depicted in “Courage,” the Warner Brothers and Vitaphone production in ■ which Belle Bennett, Marion Nixon anfl Leon Janney are featured. Miss Bennett, who enacts the mother in this story of a modern family, is compelled not only to battle against financial difficulties but against a scheming relative who attempts to alienate her children. Comely Mary Colbrook’s merry war for her seven children make splendidly genial entertainment. The supports include Pathe News and “Noah Knew His Ark” (fable cartoon). ,
