GANDHI TO VISIT VICEROY

ANXIOUS TO PRESERVE TRUCE. ACCEPTANCE OF INVITATION. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 23. After returning to Simla yesterday from Calcutta the Viceroy, Lord Wilfingdon, summoned a meeting of the Executive Council, at which consideration was given to Mr. Gandhi’s telegram assuring Lord Wilfingdon of his desire to prevent a breakdown of the Delhi truce and asking for an interview. It was later announced that Mr. Gandhi had been invited to visit Simla if he felt there was any misunderstanding which a personal interview might clear. A Bombay message says Mr. Gandhi accepted the invitation and left Ahmedabad to-night. He will be received by the Viceroy on Tuesday.
