ARREST IN SKATING RINK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 22. Arrested at one of the city skating rinks last evening, Arthur John Roberts, aged 28, motor driver, appeared before Mr. McNeill, S.M., in court to-day on a charge of .stealing two suitcases containing jewellery and clothing to the total value of £lOO9 ,the property of Sladen and Son, wholesale jewellers, Christchurch. He was remanded till August 28. It is understood that the jewellery was stolen from one of the firm’s travellers who left the suitcases in a car in Harris Street while he was absent for a few minutes.
Roberts had a quantity of valuable jewellery sewn into his clothing when arrested, it was-stated, and more jewellery was discovered after a subsequent theft.
