EXPLANATION OF DEATH FOG
CHEMICAL WORKS THE CAUSE.
PUNISHMENT OF DIRECTORS.

December last year, involving 75 deaths, heavy fines were imposed on the managing director and another director of chemical works in the Liege district from which the poisonous gases were stated to have emanated. About December 18, 1930, there were very heavy fogs in Northern Europe, especially in the upper parts of the Meuse Valley. Chemical works there apparently discharged noxious fumes which, when the air was clear and even light breezes were blowing, were quickly dispersed, but accumulated to a danger; ous extent during the days of heavy fog and proved fatal to many.
