ANNUAL DAFFODIL DAY HELD.
VICTORIA LEAGUE’S FINE EFFORT.
The annual daffodil day wa~ held at the rooms of the New Plymouth branch of the Victoria League yesterday and resulted in an exceedingly beautiful (collection of flowers of all descriptions, among which the golden daffodils mdiicative of spring filled a prominent place. There was a ready demand on the part of the large number of visitors present dor the daffodils, which, with the other (varieties of flowers, were supplied by (members and friends of the league. All the stalls were not only bountifully provided with articles, but they 'were also most tastefully. arranged. Committee members and friends were ■well to the fore in this respect, and their ready help was responsible for such a successful display. The general arrangements were under the supervision of Mrs. C H. Bur-' igesSj who overlooked, no detail. She was assisted by committee members and friends. _ The league room was arranged to hold six stalls, including the service of afternoon tea. The fancy stall held a (o-reat variety of useful articles, s made imostly by the sewing circle during the winter. Sweets, cakes and produce stalls were all well laden, many of the (contributions being from country friends. The stall-holders and other helpers were- Fancy, Mesdames A. S. Clark, J. L.’Walton, W. J. Way, G. List; cake, Mesdames C. H. Collins and T. C. List; flower, Mesdames W. J. Ewart, S. h. (Burgess, S. E. Thornton, J. IL Scanlon,°Misses M. Brodie and P. Griffiths; produce, Mesdames M. Campbell, G. Neal, P. G. Knight, 'P. Ho'by; sweets, iWhakarito Girls’ branch; afternoon tea iwas under the supervision of Miss W. iSole, assisted by members of . the house committee; door-keeper, Mrs. A. Patrick.
(Y.W.C.A. CLUB GIRLS DEMONSTRATE
■ A large and appreciative audience ■watched the Y.W.C.A. girls on Tuesday might as. they staged a demonstration of° winter activities. 1" > programme consisted oL. ; ,group songs, sea shanties and folk songs,'sung by the Saturday might Girl Citizens, national dances, exercises and amusing games by the gymnasium class, and a most attractive eeries of classical dancing studies iby the Girl Citizens in training.. <The iwhole performance was much enjoyed land gratitude was expressed tc the teachers, Airs. Stonnell, Aliss Gillies and Air. Eggleton, who had given their time and talent so generously. The. annual •meeting of the national board meeting tof the Y.W.C.A. is to be held in Weldington next' week. Mrs. Alexander and Aliss Pym are delegates from New iPlymouth. ENGAGEMENTS.
