Italy now possesses the fastest motorliner in the world, the Victoria, of the Lloyd Triestind Line, whose maiden voyage the other day created exceptional interest. The Victoria, of 13,500 tons gross, is also the largest motor-ship on regular service in the Mediterranean.’ Her introduction to the Venice-Alexan-dria run has particular interest for travelelrs from Great Britain, since it makes the journey from London to Alexandria possible in 90 hours. The ship, painted in blue and white with two lowbuilt yellow funnels, had an enthusiastic send-off from Trieste, where she had ’been built. The Victoria on her trials achieved 23J knots, and on her maiden voyage, with a full complement of first-class passengers, she did over 21 knots toward Brindisi with almost imperceptible vibration. She has four screws and four engines of the Sulzer type, of a total horse-power of 18,880, installed in two engine rooms fore and aft, in each of which there is an auxiliary Diesel engine. Each engine room is, therefore self-contained, and, in case of a breakdown in one, the ship could proceed and meet al lordinary requirements at a speed of 16 knots. There are six decks, and the number of berths is 237 first-class, 145 second-class, and 100 third-class. Every first-class cabin has attached to it a bathroom and a shower. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
