TARANAKI DOGS DOING WELL. PRELIMINARIES AT MANGER E. The twelfth Australasian Waterloo Cup meeting was commenced at the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s grounds, Auckland, on Thursday, when the first round and ties were decided. This is the first occasion on which this meeting has been held in the,Auckland district, although ten years ago the events were run off at Frankton. . , Forty dogs took part m Thursdays events, there being 20 courses m the first round and ten in the subsequent ties. The casualties among the hares was somewhat high, 17 animals being killed. Two dogs were run under Australian nomination and Again Terms, entered by th New South Wales Coursina Association, was the winner in both his runs. First Ties: Page Boy beat Billy Boy (hare was turned once only in a short course), White Chief beat Barnaby Rudge (four slips had to be made before a decision was reached; two hares ran straight home and “no course” resulted; the third hare collapsed after release); Papyrus beat Lily of the Valley (three attempts were necessary ere a decision was reached); Just Terms beat The Crow in a poor course, the hare making a short run; Blue Girl’s Pride beat One Alone (a short course, the winner makino- an early kill); Bonny Colours'beat Milton Chimes (a good course, the hare beina frequently turned near home); Sunskade beat Aussie (a fine hare saw some good coursing close to the fence); Evert Terms beat Glare (the winner did most of the work and won comfortably) ; Lady Commoner beat Lord Jaffa (a short course, the winner making an early kill); Again Terms beat Pythian (the best course of the round; the hare escaped home, but returned before the judge could give a decision, and led the <lo"3 back to midfield; the dogs tired and after an exciting course the hare again reached home).
