Miss Nora Spence and Miss Margaret Wright motored through to To Arolia and Auckland, where they will spend a holiday.

Mrs. G. Hall had some friends to afternoon tea on Thursday. Those present were Mrs. Beale, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Jardine, Mrs. Frcdric, Mrs. Jeffries, Mrs.-Uniacke, Mrs. Yarndiey, Mrs. Porritt, Mrs. A, Coleman, Mrs. R. Kay, Miss M. Porritt and Miss B. Willie (Marton).

Miss Margaret Wright was hostess at a bridge party on Monday afternoon, when those present were Miss Al. Bremner (Waverley,) Miss J. Stewart, Miss R. Fannin ) Eltham), Miss A. Riera, Miss C. Uniacke, Miss B. Willis (Marton), Miss G. North, Miss N. Spenee, Miss O. Masters, Miss M. Porritt and Miss J. Coleman.

A very enjoyable evening was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Allen, the occasion being the coming of age' of Miss Kathleen Allen. The rooms were prettily decorated with coloured streamers. Mrs. Allen received the guests in a black satin and lace frock, and Miss- Kathleen was dressed in green panne velvet trimmed' with cream lace, with shoes to tone. Dancing and games were enjoyed, the music being supplied by Mrs. Carter (piano), Miss Rogers and Mrs. Allen (violins). Little Miss Marcia Allen entertained the guests with fancy dances. At supper the cake was cut and the guests drank the health of Miss Kathleen and also of her twin sister Doreen, who is at present at Dargaville. Those present were Misses Hazel Hoole, Max Skoglund, Zoe and Ola Masters, Edna Anderson, Marjorie Brown, Jean gangster, Marjorie Curd, Hope Penn, Moira Grubb, Evelyn Rogers, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Bishop, Messrs. P.eith, Pehn, Gaw, D. Young, McHathie, O’Leary, Till, Slater, Strachan, Sandford, Lewis, Carter, E. Worthington, W. Sangeter and Bishop. MATAPU NOVELTY DANCE. The Matapu novelty dance on Thursday evening was largely attended and a most enjoyable evening resulted. Wills’ orchestra played popular dance numbers with extras contributed by Misses M. Guy and Wilmshunst. Mr. McCluckey sang several popular songs. . The novelty dances, which were a feature of the programme, were-won as follows: Monte Carlo waltz, Misses Hoskin (Duthie Road); spot waltz, Mr. Corrigan and partner; Monte Carlo foxtrot, Misses Seed and Cleaver (Matapu); ‘‘mystery man” danee, Mr. A. Willan and E. Leuthard. Messrs. T. Huekstep and T. Guy Were masters of ceremonies. coatee), Misses M. Powdrell (black floral taffetas), M. Goodson (powder blue taffetas and tulle) and E. Buist (salmon moire frock). ® « 0 « A very enjoyable party was given by Mre. J. C. Downey at her Kapuni residence on Monday evening. The evening was. spent in dancing and games. Mrs. Downey received her guests wearing autumn tinted floral ninon and a bridge coat. Miss Joan Downey wore pink ehot taffetas and matching coatee. Among those present were Mesdames E. Meuli, black isatin and georgette; T. Joyce, ring velvet; D. Cameron, navy celanese; Mieses Edna-' Washer, turquoise blue georgette and lace; Vera Mortimer, maize satin; Sheila Lovell, shell pink crepe georgette; Jessie Joyce, pink figured silk, black coatee; Audrey Betts, eaxe blue lace and georgette,floral velvet coatee; Pat Lovell, apple green figured taffetas; Monica Joyce, cameo pink satin, multi-coloured, coatee; Betty Paterson, floral chiffon and coatee; Lois McLean (Eltham),' peach satin and frilled georgette, figured velvet coat; Peg Verrell (Eltham), white patterned taffetas; Beatrice Oldfield, white georgette and satin.
