NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS
RUN FROM VOGELTOWN SCHOOL. Despite the fact there was a representative Rugby match ou Saturday, a good muster of 29 harriers of the New Plymouth club met for their weekly run. The runners were divided into two packs, a fast and a slow one. The slow pack set off across the Huatoki Domain and then in a southerly direction for about two miles, where they came out on to Carrington Road. From that stage the pacemakers, A. Hunter and F. Cooper, went' towards the main road, through, some good country with a piece of bush land and, when nearly to the road, turned back towards home. After crossing Te Henui River the pack came out on Tarahua Road and then came home after a good run. The second pack left about 10 minutes later than the others and were supposed to pick them up. After covering the , same ground for a short distance they were unable to find any trace, so they carried on along Doralto Road, past Frethey’s Gardens and up Govett Avenue to the end, and then across country. From there mud was experienced, causing some fun. The country covered for about two miles was fairly hilly, and when the Huatoki stream was reached the boys had a much-needed wash. When the Carrington Road was sighted just below Ratanui Hill the pack turned back and ran across more open country for a while and then on to the road. There a halt was called to allow the pack to get together again. The run from there was “go as you please,” and some had a good training run for the last two miles of a six-mile run. Next Saturday the harriers will meet at the racecourse at 2.30 for the junior and senior championships.
