GALE RAGES IN AUCKLAND
HAIL AND THUNDERSTORM COLLAPSE OF A SHOP VERANDAH. EXTENSIVE MINOR DAMAGE DONE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A long spell of wintry weather culminated in a severe storm in Auckland over the,week-end. Yesterday and to-day a westerly gale was blowing, with frequent fierce squalls, accompanied by hail, while there were two severe thunderstorms. Some of the squalls were the worst experienced in Auckland, and ,several doors and windows were blown in, while extensive minor damage was done. '
A shop verandah at St. Helier’s collapsed, bringing down telegraph poles. A coal hulk broke adrift from its moorings this afternoon, but was secured after it had been blown some distance down the harbour.
